Isn't it amazing when God gives us those moments when we can sort of look back over the last few weeks or few months or few years of life and see the big picture...the one that God's been painting? I feel like I've had one of those moments recently. Let me start at the beginning...
In June/July of this year, a sweet, sweet couple moved to Valdosta. He is a football coach at VSU and she is an art teacher. We "clicked" immediately with the Browns and were thrilled at the possibility of a new friendship. We spent some time together...a dinner here and there, a day at the beach for Rachel and I, and some VSU functions for Chuck and Robby. It was close to love at first sight! Ha!
As I got to know Rachel, she began to share her life story and I found that Valdosta was her 8th move in 5 years of marraige. Wow...I was in awe! We had breakfast together and I was so encouraged by her faith. We realized that we are a lot alike and have similar family backgrounds and lifestyles (husbands in college athletics).
While Rachel and I were at the beach (with some other lovely friends from Valdosta), Chuck called me to tell me that Troy University had called him. As the call became a serious converstation and then became a visit, we discovered that the Browns had lived in Troy for two years...WHAT? SERIOUSLY?
To make this long story a little shorter, let me just tell you how blessed my life has been b/c of God putting Rachel in my life. We said almost right away that we were sure that God had put us in each other's life for "such a time as this!" Most recently, I emailed Rachel asking if they were finding their "niche" in Valdosta and sharing that I'm still working on meeting people, making friends, etc. She emailed back and told me that she believes that God purposefully gives us (frequent movers) this time to rest...to be alone. I've been thinking about it and my whole perspective has changed. Tonight, I had NOTHING to do...and I mean NOTHING (which is why I'm having a blog marathon!) When I got home from school, Chuck and I went walking then cooked and ate supper. As we ate, I thought "Now what do I need to get done tonight?" and I couldn't come up with a single thing! I am grateful for this time of rest! I took a long bath and read a book...when has that ever happened on a week night?!?! (Thanks Rachel!)
Let me add this fun note...as a direct result of this move, Chuck and I have spent more time together in September 2009, than in any other month of our marraige. In a single word, it has been heaven! Thank you Lord for Your sovereignty!

Hi, I happened upon your post through Rachel's blog. I met Rachel when our husband's were grad students together for Troy, Robbie was a gradcoach and my husband a grad equipment manager for the football team. Since then we have moved to Texas and then now to Appalachaian State. I loved reading your post as by moving here and living 45 minutes from the school (because of my job) we are working to meet friends, or even have the time to; between work and school, and I do need to remember alone time is good. Rachel is such a sweet person.
good luck at your time at Troy, we have some close friends we met there that just moved back actually.
